科研內(nèi)容:
The research will introduce you the journalism skills, including writing, interview skills, pitch stories, on air skills and edit videos. You will produce two short video stories during the session.
Schedule:
Session 1: Research Introduction: Anatomy of Visual Narrative
To make strong visual narrative, you need to understand its form. We’ll discuss the elements of good visual storytelling. Prepare two or three short video stories that you like the most. We will also discuss the basic filming skills, and editing skills. Try to film a sequence during the time. Prepare for the pitch.
Reading assignment
Session 2: How to Use the Camera and How to Pitch
We’ll go over how to work your gear and go over what makes a good pitch. We will go over a pitch template. What is the key points for a good pitch? What’s your story?
Reading and Writing session. I will prepare several good news and stories for you to read.
Assignment: Pitch stories
Session 3: Ethics of Visual Journalism
How does the camera change the dynamic between you and your source? When do you stop recording? When do you keep the camera rolling? We will also discuss your pitches during the research.
Assignment: Film a one-minute story.
Session 4: What’s your story?
We will screening what you have filmed in the research. Discuss what area you can improve. We will edit together for your story.
Reading and writing workshop.
Session 5: The real world reporting
I will give you a place and ask you to find a story there in two hours. I will go together with you and check what you will do in the real world under the time pressure. How to find stories, how to interview people, and how to react under the pressure.
Session 6: Editing
How to make a news package based on your reporting. What’s the difference between news and narrative video storytelling? You will do a news package for week 3 assignment.
Session 7: On Air skills
We will talk about on air skills in this session. How to present the best of you in front of the camera. What basic skills you need to have? We will have a real stand-up in New York City.
Assignment: Edit you video stories.
Session 8: Screening Day and CBS Tour.
We will screen all the video stories that you have done during the research. CBS Tour after the screening.
