克萊蒙特學院于1925年正式成立,距離洛杉磯市中心東部僅35英里,包括5所本科院校――波莫納學院(pomona college)、斯克瑞普斯學院(scripps college)、克萊蒙特?麥肯納學院(claremont mckenna college)、哈維?穆德學院(harvey mudd college)和匹澤學院(pitzer college)；兩所研究生學院――克萊蒙特大學(claremont graduate university)和克柯研究所(keck graduate institute)和一個綜合性服務機構――克萊蒙特大學聯盟(claremont university consortium)。各機構之間不僅共享圖書館系統(tǒng)、體育設施,共同組織課外活動,而且提供合辦教學項目和跨校課程注冊。目前該聯盟擁有逾6,000名學生,教職員工總數也超過3,300名,有2500多項課程可供克萊蒙特地區(qū)的學生自由選擇。
2006年美國大學文理學院綜合排名顯示：pomona college(第6)、scripps college(第31)、claremont mckenna college(第10)、harvey mudd college(第18)、pitzer college(第54)均位居前列。claremont graduate university是全美少數擁有獨立信息科學學院的學校,更是過去10年來世界上擁有最多信息科學博士畢業(yè)生的學院,專精領域涵蓋知識管理(knowledge management)、系統(tǒng)開發(fā)(systems development)、電信和網絡(telecom and networking)、人工智能(artificial intelligence)和數據挖掘(data mining),該校還是全美惟一提供半職學生(part-time students)的信息科學學院。
