要獎——獎學(xué)金申請 sample letter 今年過年的時候才申完george washington u。之前在網(wǎng)站有看到我們專業(yè)(旅游管理)申請的ddl是4月,獎學(xué)金申請的ddl是1月15日。
1月前給我在美國的中介打了個電話,請教關(guān)于怎么申請獎學(xué)金的問題。以下為中介回復(fù)的大意：
business schools usually don’t offer the scholarship, especially for international applicants•••
i highly recommend you to apply scholarship when you arrive us or at your 2nd year•••
for the ddl of 15th jan, let it be let it be•••just focus on your application this time•••
好吧。聽了中介的話我放棄了,有點失望但是相信她了。
gw的效率很高,2月初就發(fā)了admission。12月、1月就有拿到錄取的童鞋,而且兩個人還有一萬刀五千刀的獎。覺得自己的背景并不比人家差,心里不平衡,于是試探性地發(fā)了郵件給小蜜,請教了一些別的問題,最后問現(xiàn)在還有獎available for me to apply么? 可能是我沒說清楚,gw的小蜜只在最后簡單回復(fù)summer semester是沒有獎可以申的。于是我又覺得蠻打擊,放棄了。和朋友抱怨過幾次命運不濟,申請晚了,導(dǎo)致手頭無獎blahblah。
然后就是3月底了,拿到gw admission的筒子越來越多,大家紛紛開始決定選校了。跟我一起申請的烏比跟我說,幾天前她發(fā)了郵件跟gw要到獎了,你為什么不試試呢?我瞬時詫異!!!原來。。。原來還可以試的啊?!!!!!!
于是寫了一封很有誠意的要獎信給小蜜。三天后,如愿收到了1萬刀的系獎學(xué)金。
至此,有幾點心得想要分享給大家：
可能很多diy的筒子跟我一樣不懂獎學(xué)金怎么申。據(jù)我這段時間的了解,大致有以下幾種方式：
首先,商學(xué)院有沒有獎學(xué)金?有!
只是給不給,給多少,視專業(yè)和學(xué)校而定。具體的情況需要直接瀏覽學(xué)校網(wǎng)站,或者向直系學(xué)長咨詢。比如purdue幾年來作為big ten一員,總是以悲慘的缺錢形象示人,狂收中國學(xué)生也無獎提供,比如utd給了不少半獎。自己的事情永遠(yuǎn)要自己負(fù)責(zé),這個世界誰能靠得住呢?輕易聽信中介和無良媒體的三手信息,你就好好被蒙在鼓里混沌吧;
第二,怎么給的問題。
一般非全獎的學(xué)校都是采用充抵學(xué)費的形式,不退。我們專業(yè)的很多學(xué)校都是獲得了admission之后可以進(jìn)一步和學(xué)校申請獎學(xué)金的,比如uh,gwu,cornell。有的學(xué)校是以申請ra, ta的方式算是變相提供勤工儉學(xué)的機會,如unlv,psu。但是對于什么時候申請,很多學(xué)校的網(wǎng)站寫得不清不楚,這時候就發(fā)郵件咨詢小蜜吧。從我申請gw獎學(xué)金這個案例來看,小蜜的信息明顯和網(wǎng)站公示的信息不對稱,大家一定要多問,嚴(yán)防這種情況出現(xiàn)而錯失良機!!!nyu在網(wǎng)站明確寫明國際生一般不給獎,但是很多專業(yè)或多或少的還給優(yōu)秀的applicants意思了一下;
第三,如果真的在出國前弄不到任何名目的獎金,出去再看也是個辦法。
勤工儉學(xué)啊,好的學(xué)校有各種校友贊助,獎學(xué)金的名目也更為繁多些,好的gpa也會有更多的機會。不過 畢竟我沒有在美國讀書的經(jīng)歷,還是保守建議大家多跟直系學(xué)長提前探好學(xué)校情況。
我覺得大家尤其是在選校的最后階段,不打算去某所學(xué)校就不要玩玩看跟人家要獎讓小蜜白忙活。這件事于情于理還是說不過去的,也不太厚道。既然獎到了,就慎重的考慮。哪怕真的只能決定不去,記得給小蜜發(fā)一封感謝信。
獎學(xué)金這種東西,真的是不要白不要。幾千刀看著不多,折成rmb也夠父母過幾天好日子。拿gw的獎學(xué)金來說,我放棄了兩次機會,1月是中介告訴我不行;2月是我誤以為小蜜告訴我不行;加上心里對這件事情猶豫而自卑,主觀yy申請晚了還要獎的人挺傻逼的,于是當(dāng)時也沒有刨根問底據(jù)理力爭下去。直到戰(zhàn)友烏比提醒我,為什么不試試?對啊,我們在擔(dān)心什么呢。不過就是寫封郵件多問問校友而已,大不了失敗了也收獲了經(jīng)驗。前行的路上,不要懷疑自己,主觀臆造事物的消極姿態(tài)。be aggressive, and just go for it!
gw的獎沒有表格,前面說過我寫了很長的信給系里。大概的邏輯思路我寫給大家,希望能在日后筒子們寫的時候作為參考：
argument 1: (開門見山套近乎)我非常喜歡某校,我不得不去某校某專業(yè)的原因。(這段最好寫大寫寬泛一點,多談?wù)勛约旱穆殬I(yè)規(guī)劃,腳踏實地的人生理想,不要只拘泥于研究方向之類的東西,太過于平庸。寫寫你ps里沒來得及表達(dá)的重要內(nèi)容!)
argument 2：(轉(zhuǎn)折)同時我也遇到了很多困難,我家庭背景一般,不夠經(jīng)濟實力進(jìn)入某校。(簡單講就是哭窮,寫得越樸實越好)
argument 3：(轉(zhuǎn)折遞進(jìn))同時我收到了幾個大學(xué)的錄取通知書,如xxxxx, 費用成為了我選校的重要因素。( 給學(xué)校施加壓力,讓他們有人才流失的危機感。不過最好別寫學(xué)校的死對頭,也別寫太差的讓人家bs你一頓。寫幾個水平聲譽差不多的)
argument 4： (升華)寫自己的優(yōu)勢,多么competitive!!!(這段最重要,不過還是寫ps里沒有或點到為止的內(nèi)容,進(jìn)一步加深印象。
小tips就是語氣要溫潤感恩,詞句多潤色吧。即使沒拿到獎,他們有空閱讀你的信件,給別人留個好印象。沒準(zhǔn)這次的失敗造就了下次順風(fēng)順?biāo)目赡堋?/p>

dear mta program office,
i am constance who has already been admitted by your mta program for the 2012 fall semester. i hope to inquire you that could you offer me any fellowship or scholarship? since have been worked busily for my company, i just got the time to catch my breath and exchange my thoughts with you.
firstly, gw is my dream school and i really appreciate the opportunity you offer me to forward my tourism study. when the first time i saw the mta program especially the tourism sustainable management concentration, i cannot wait to join you.
as an environmentalist, i care about the environment issues and hope to bring sustainable development strategies to my real life. yulin is my hometown which located in the northwest of china. by taking advantage of its rich natural gas and coal resources, it has achieved leaps and bounds economically. however, no one cares about how the rapid economic development leaves a tremendous negative impact. because of the over-exploitation, the land has been severely subsided and sometimes hundred kilometers of land shocked like an earthquake happened. the most painful to me is, the hongjian lake which is the largest inland lake in the mu us desert, since 1991, the lake area decreased due to less groundwater recharge resulting from lowering of the water table caused by agricultural activities and less surface water recharge due to dam construction in the upstream rivers. i really want to take the responsibility to protect my hometown.
but i fell i am all alone. when i call up my buddies to go back and set up our own business to make contribution to our hometown, they always say that stay in big city can gain good salaries and they don’t feel professional to deal with the issues. i know there must be someone cares about the environment in developing countries like me. besides getting intellectual growth through mta program, i believe that i can access your active social networks and find co-works who not just like making money on the investment or real estate area, who want to realize the shared drams together. with the strong reputation and resources of gw, i think we can much promote the plan and call more of the pioneers who bring a sustainable tourism development track to the modern china.
secondly, the tuition fees of gw are heavy-laden for me. i was born in a scholarly family which my father is a journalist and my mother is a teacher of an elementary school. they are not rich but both hard-working, thrifty and enjoy the life. they gave me their lifes saving and hope i could study at a famous university of us. since i told them i was admitted by gw, my mother has been so heisted to buy a new skirt. meanwhile, as i also got the admissions of unlv and nyu, the costs will be an important factor for me to choose a university. but with my favorite concentration and location, gw is the school i want to go most. even the tuition of gw is too high for me, i really hope you could offer me some help to make me enroll my dream school.
finally, i am confident that i can be a worthy student of you. i am the song qinling scholarship (the famous scholarship which offers only a few well-rounded chinese students) owner during middle school; i won the national scholarship of china (the highest scholarship in china that rewarding the student with outstanding academic performance) to pay my undergraduate tuition; i carried out more than three tourism research projects so that got the innovation scholarship of xxx university several times•••furthermore, i have gained more hospitality work experience than other current years graduates. interning and traveling in the asian-pacific regions makes me deeply informed about the status and the facing problems of asian hospitality industry, and i will bring all my valuable experiences and opinions to your program.
all in all, to be a graduate student of yours is my sincere hope. if you could offer me the fellowship or scholarship more than $15,000, i think i can definitely choose my dream school gw, and what’s more, leave my parents a better life. your kindly consider will be really really appreciated.

we appreciate receiving a letter from you sharing your thoughts explaining to us the desire to complete your graduate studies in the gwu. having reviewed your request; i am pleased to announce the faculty committee has recommended to offer you the deans scholarship for $10,000 tuition award. note the is the maximum amount we can offer from the deans office and it is non-renewable award..
upon hearing back from you; the official scholarship letter will be forwarded to you. considering gw master of tourism administration program is a world renowned degree; we really hope you will not turn down this offer.
